Using the Straight Pin Method to Pin on a
Veil
In the following pictures I do my best to show
you how to pin on a plain veil. The method used is one
of the cheapest to try. It is not the method I prefer, but
the one that I think a lot of people use. It is also the
toughest one to imagine without some pics. You can also use
white bobby pins, or sew clippies to the underside of your veils.
But if you prefer the straight pin method, here it is.
This is a very plain veil with a rolled
hem edge done on my serger. It is similar to a veil sold on www.prayercoverings.com
however their veils have a more shaping than this does, and they
usually have lovely trims on them as well. I think they also
sell in various sizes and colors. I highly recommend them by
the way. :-) Excellent sewing and designs.
The below I just do in the one size and one
color. Other sites sell similar designs as well.
This is just my super plain little version. I have heard
these terms as d-shaped veils too.
This is a photo of the veil flat.
Start with prepping your hair to be put up.
I personally braid my and use a barrette to put it up.

Get your hair in a bun or whatever works for you
to have it up. This type of veil, really lays best with the
hair up. If you are using the straight pin method, you about
have t put your hair up. If you are using something like
sewn in clips that keep in on there strongly, then you might get
by with letting a braid dangle. But keeping it up is usually
the best way.

(Ignore facing on my dress in the above photo). hee hee
Put a clippie into the top front. It can
be any type of barrette you chose really, but this type I like
because thy don't catch or pull my hair. Note the below
photo, it doesn't even have to look perfectly parted or divided,
this part with be covered. So it doesn't really matter.
But a clip of some sort is important in keeping the veil on
and secure.

Next grab the top center of the veil with one
hand, and a straight pin with your other. Then line up the
veil to be pinned IN FRONT of the barrette. This will keep
it from slipping back on straight slick hair especially.

Note the pin is on top then going through the
veil to catch a little bit of hair then through the veil again.
And don't worry too much about poking yourself with the pin.
Be careful obviously, but the scalp is pretty tough and if you
accidentally prick it, it doesn't really hurt very much. :-)
It is rare I stick myself doing this though. It is actually
easy.

Next grab the side points.
Pull them around under your bun and secure with
another pin. You can also use a safety pin or whatever you
like here as well. I personally sew snaps into my own.
If you are putting this on a child, I would recommend a safety pin
to be a bit more cautious.

Ad some pins into the sides to help
further secure the veiling.

All Done!
Note the veil lays very nicely. You can
wear it more forward to cover more hair if you like. I
usually do when I wear this style. I often wear cap
coverings myself anymore though. See the last photo in case
you are curious. It is just a preference thing. The
point is making the step to cover and be obedient to God.

Just for the curious... :-) This is
just a cap I created....I tend to wear ones like this or close to
it. Please ignore my hair being a bit frazzled and lose, I
had been out on the wind, plus taking coverings off and on for
photos. LOL
